A New Era Begins: Exploring the 2027 Kia EV3 in Manitoba
June 16 2026,
Kia just unveiled something Manitoba drivers have been waiting for - a compact electric SUV that doesn't ask you to compromise. The 2027 EV3 made its North American debut at the New York International Auto Show, bringing the technology and range of Kia's flagship EV9 in a package that fits the way most people actually drive.
The EV market has offered limited choices: too expensive, too large, or too short on range for Manitoba's distances. The EV3 changes that. Sized for city parking and highway trips alike, it delivers up to 482 kilometres of range in ideal conditions and fast charging that gets you back on the road in about half an hour. This is Kia's third dedicated EV to arrive in Canada this year, filling a gap that's been sitting empty for too long.
Two Battery Options, Six Trim Levels
The EV3 offers two battery configurations. The base Light trim uses a 58.3 kWh battery with front-wheel drive, rated at up to 354 kilometres of range. The larger 81.4 kWh battery powers the Wind, Land, GT-Line, GT-Line Limited, and GT trims, delivering up to 482 kilometres of range with front-wheel drive. All-wheel drive is optional on Wind, Land, GT-Line, and GT-Line Limited, and comes standard on the GT.
Both batteries sit on Kia's 400V E-GMP platform - the same architecture underpinning the EV9. DC fast charging takes the 58.3 kWh battery from 10 to 80 percent in an estimated 29 minutes, while the 81.4 kWh battery charges in 31 minutes under ideal conditions. The EV3 uses a native NACS charging port, ensuring compatibility with Tesla's Supercharger network and the growing number of NACS-equipped public chargers across Canada.

Technology That Matches the EV9
The EV3's cabin centres on nearly 30 inches of combined screen space - the same setup as the EV9. Dual 12.3-inch displays (instrument cluster and infotainment) plus a 5.3-inch climate control screen run Kia's Connected Car Navigation Cockpit (ccNC), which supports over-the-air updates and integrates with Digital Key 2.0. You can lock, unlock, and start the EV3 from your smartphone without a physical key.
Available features include a 12-inch head-up display, eight-speaker Harman Kardon audio, wireless smartphone charging, and Surround View Monitor. Standard equipment across all trims includes dual-zone automatic climate control, heated front seats, and multicolour mood lighting.
The rear seats recline up to 40 degrees and include dedicated air vents. The cargo area offers 740 litres behind the rear seats, plus a 25-litre frunk - uncommon in this segment. The rear seats fold 60/40 flat, and an optional Smart Power Tailgate opens automatically via the Smart Key with adjustable opening height and speed.
i-Pedal 3.0 and Vehicle-to-Load Power
Kia's i-Pedal 3.0 system lets you control speed and bring the EV3 to a complete stop using only the accelerator pedal. It works with Smart Regenerative Braking to recapture energy during deceleration, now functions in reverse, and the i-Pedal Memory feature restores your last-used setting when you restart the vehicle.
The available Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) function turns the EV3 into a mobile power source for laptops, camping gear, power tools, or any compatible device, drawing from the battery until it reaches 20 percent state of charge. This feature requires separately sold equipment and may not work with all devices.
Collision Avoidance and Driver Assistance
The EV3 comes standard with eight airbags, including rear side airbags. Standard Forward Collision Avoidance is designed to apply automatic emergency braking in certain situations. FCA Junction Turning watches for oncoming vehicles when you're turning left with the signal active. FCA Junction Crossing scans for cross traffic when driving straight through an intersection. Both systems provide audible and visual alerts before applying brakes if needed.
Hands-On Detection is also standard, sensing contact between your hands and the steering wheel and alerting you if it detects you've let go. Other available systems include:
- Driver Attention Warning
- Lane Following Assist
- Intelligent Speed Limit Assist
- Remote Smart Parking Assist
Design That Sets It Apart
The EV3 follows Kia's 'Opposites United' design language. The front features Kia's Star Map DRL design with small cube LED projector headlamps. Vertical lights emphasize the broad front, while horizontal elements highlight the latest Tiger Face interpretation. Hidden rear door handles keep the side profile clean.
The roofline slopes rearward, creating a floating illusion as it moves toward the rear taillamps, which mirror the Star Map lighting design. Short overhangs and a low stance give the EV3 a planted look. Standard 17-inch alloy wheels come with all-season tires, while available 19-inch wheels are offered on higher trims. The GT trim gets high-performance all-season tires and exclusive design elements.
Kia used lightweight body materials, aero wheels, a front bumper active air flap, and a full underbody cover to achieve a drag coefficient of 0.26 Cd. The suspension uses MacPherson strut setup at the front and multi-link geometry at the rear, tuned for a smooth, planted ride. Engineers added sound absorption throughout the body and damping materials to reduce noise.
When It Arrives and What It Costs
The 2027 Kia EV3 is expected to go on sale in Canada late in the third quarter of 2026. Pricing will be announced closer to the on-sale date. All six trims will be available at launch.
The EV3 Fills a Real Gap
The EV3 enters one of the fastest-growing segments in Canada with a combination of range, technology, and practicality that hasn't been easy to find at this size. It's built for buyers who want to go electric without giving up space, features, or confidence on longer drives. If you've been waiting for an EV that fits your life instead of asking you to adjust to it, the EV3 is worth a closer look when it arrives later this year.
